Ophthalmologist Nan Hayworth Out-Fundraises Democrat Incumbent

Nan Hayworth (NY-19) has just reached ‘Contender’ status in the NRCC’s Young Guns recruitment program – ‘Contender’ is the second of three tiers in the rigorous program. She is one of over twenty Republican physicians running for Congress in the upcoming 2010 elections.
Hayworth is running against Democrat Incumbent John Hall and is reported to have raised $519,000 as of the end of December (almost $70,000 more than Hall). Proving that she can raise serious funds this early in the election cycle makes her a truly formidable opponent.
Hayworth worked as a practicing ophthalmologist for sixteen years as both a partner in a group practice and also in her own solo practice. This experience gives her a keen, first-hand insight into the daily challenges physicians face in running successful practices. She received her Medical Degree from Cornell University Medical College where she was one of three top students.
