Democrats Launch Obamacare PR Campaign
June 16, 2010
According to the latest Rasmussen Reports poll, 58% of Americans want Obama’s health care reform repealed.
Voters remain concerned about the cost of the reforms and the access they will have to providers as Obamacare begins to take effect.
Instead of addressing these issues, Democrats are focusing their energies on a new PR campaign to defend the unprecedented legislation.
Democrats are scrambling to try and convince Americans that their health care plan is actually good for the nation, however evidence points to the contrary. Just last week, Congressional Budget Office Director Douglas Elmendorf told the White House Obamacare will raise the national deficit and lead to a rationing of care. With President Obama’s approval rating slipping and an anti-incumbent mood sweeping the nation, the Democrats have decided rather than listening to the public, to blare their message even louder.
According to Business Week, the Democrats are beginning an “advertising and advocacy campaign that will start this summer.” The promotion, which is being headed by Democratic allies Tom Dashchle and Senator Kennedy’s widow, Victoria, includes the creation of a non-profit organization called The Health Information Center that will defend Congressmen who voted in favor of the bill.
The Center and the White House are already working hand-in-hand with plans to hold more than 100 events. The first event was a tele-town hall meeting between a senior citizen center and President Obama. Subcabinet members will attend future events.
The campaign, which will total $125 million, may be expensive, but clearly the Democrats are willing to pay just about anything to keep their jobs.
